Interested in joining the Tulane NROTC Battalion and pursuing a commission in the Navy or Marine Corps? Incoming college freshmen and current full-time college freshmen and sophomores are eligible to join.
High School Juniors and Seniors
The NROTC Scholarship application opens April 1st of your junior year and closes on December 31st for Navy Pre-Med applicants and January 31st of your senior year for Marine option, Nursing option, and Navy Scholarship applicants. Please see Scholarships and eligibility to learn about each of these opportunities and their requirements.
- Start the application: Find and contact a Navy Officer recruiter nearest to you to start the application process. Be sure to see with your local Navy Talent Acquisition Group (NTAG) if you are competitive for an Immediate Scholarship Reservation (ISR).
- Officer Interview: Once your application is complete, contact one of the NROTC units you are interested in attending to schedule your officer interview. We recommend selecting a unit at a school you are considering attending. If Tulane University or one of our crosstown affiliated schools is among your top five choices, we are happy to accommodate your interview request.
- Keep us informed: Let us know when you submit your NROTC scholarship application as well as your college application.
- Scholarship Determination: You will be notified whether you have been awarded an NROTC scholarship. If selected, carefully review your scholarship notification and decide whether to accept or decline the offer. If not selected, you can join us as a College Programmer. See below on next steps to join our program.
- Scholarship Activation: Once accepted, you will then work on the following three requirements to activate your scholarship.
- DoDMERB Medical Examination: NROTC scholarship recipients must be medically qualified or receive an approved waiver before scholarship activation. Your scholarship notification will include instructions for creating accounts and scheduling appointments. Start early, as the process can be lengthy. If you are medically disqualified, the waiver process is automatically initiated when applicable, but approval is not guaranteed. Complete all required appointments and follow-up requests promptly.
- Completion of New Student Indoctrination (NSI): NSI is a required, approximately 2.5 week summer training program held at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois, that prepares incoming NROTC MIDN through physical fitness, leadership development, and instruction in basic military skills. Three increments are offered throughout the summer.
- Pass a Navy PRT/Marine PFT: Navy options must achieve at least a Good Low on the Navy PRT, while Marine options must earn a combined score of at least 200 on the Marine PFT. Students will have two opportunities to meet the required standard during NSI, with additional opportunities to pass the PRT/PFT after arriving to the unit.
- Place Deposit to Enroll: Confirm your attendance at the university of your choice. If you received an NROTC scholarship but decided to attend a university other than the one ranked first on your application, you may submit a Placement Change Request to request placement at your preferred university.
- Attend New Student Orientation (NSO): All incoming MIDN are required to attend Tulane NROTC's NSO before the start of the academic year to review unit expectations and complete required paperwork. Additional details will be provided.
Full-time College Freshmen and Sophomores
College Program Midshipmen participate in NROTC without an initial scholarship or service obligation while completing the same Naval Science courses, physical training, uniform requirements, and leadership development as scholarship MIDN. Two- and three-year scholarship opportunities are available, and eligible MIDN may be selected for Advanced Standing. College Program students cannot join mid-semester and must wait until the follow semester to begin. Please see Scholarships and eligibility to learn about each of these opportunities and their requirements.
